Historic Gardiner's Basin, Atlantic City, New Jersey

Left Cape May early this morning,  heading out into the Atlantic for our first leg of the trip up to New York.  Arrived in Atlantic City at noon. We considered going on, but the next leg is over 60 miles, and the water was not really rough but rolling waves coming in on our beam, so not really pleasant. Therefore, decided to stop here for the night. As we travelled, saw a few rows of crab pot markers, saw some fishing boats putting out nets, also saw dolphins (beautiful and fun to watch as always) and a turtle swimming along (we thought he was a crab pot marker at first). Also saw a beach ball floating on down the water.
We had heard that the only good place to stay in Atlantic City was at the marina that used to be owned/run by Donald Trump (very expensive), but some people in a boat near us at Utsch’s told us to try the marina by the aquarium. We called and got slips on great floating docks, and at about 1/3 of the price of the fancy marina. After lunch, Jim, Gloria, Wayne and I caught the Jitney bus,  one of many  small buses that travel around the main areas of the city. They come frequently, and our experience was that the drivers were very friendly and helpful.  Rode out to the boardwalk and the casinos. The Boardwalk is a series of tourist shops, massage parlours, fast food joints, and places where you can have your future foretold.  Lots of people. Casinos were magnificent, but the ones we went in all looked the same inside, and the same as others we have seen in other places. Interesting to note that the game Monopoly was based on Atlantic City, so street names as we were riding around town were very familiar. Across from the marina, we can see another casino under construction, some houses that have not yet been updated/renovated, and some windmills for power generation. Atlantic city almost seems to be a mix of the very rich and the very poor.
Came back to the marina and had dinner on the boat with Jim and Gloria. We plan to leave early in the morning if the weather is good.
