Met two tows in the canal, this one pushed by the tug |
We hesitated about whether to move on today; the forecast was for higher winds than we like, but we were travelling for the most part in protected waters. We did leave Sassafras Harbour Marina, with the proviso that if it got rough, we would pull in somewhere. Travelled out the close to 10 miles of the Sassafras River, then out into Chesapeake Bay. Windy but waves were not bad. Then we entered the C&D Canal, that connects the Chesapeake Bay with the Delaware River. Water was quite smooth in the canal, so it was a nice ride. Exited the canal with about 2 miles to go until we entered the channel up to Delaware City. The waves were choppy and the winds high, so winds were blowing spray up into the flybridge. However, waves were on our bow, which is OK. Nancy and Eddie, the waves were ringing our bell, first time that has happened. As soon as we entered the channel into Delaware City it calmed right down. The marina here has a special deal for loopers, good thing because it looks like we may be here for a couple of days until the wind dies down. Went for a walk around town this afternoon, both Wayne and I got haircuts. Got together with Jim and Kathy from Married with Her and Mary and Joe on Pilgrim, as well as Jim and Gloria, for dinner uptown. Nice to connect with Jim and Kathy again, had not met Mary and Joe before. High winds forecast for tomorrow, so will probably stay here. The marina is planning a breakfast for us all.
