Dowry Creek Marina, Belhaven, North Carolina

Left River Dunes marina this morning. It was such a beautiful place. We actually delayed our departure so each of us could have a shower in the steam showers at River Dunes, first steam shower we have ever seen. Pulled out into Broad Creek, then out into the Neuse River. The Neuse River has the potential to be rough because it is a wide shallow body of water, but the winds were light and we had a good day on the water. Travelled up a narrow channel, then into the Pamlico river, which again can be rough, but today was good. Here at Dowry Creek, they have fixed docks which we haven't seen for a while, it has been mostly floating docks, which require a different way of tying the boat. As we docked, the people helping us made sure the people on each boat knew that they were cooking chicken tonight, and we were welcome to attend a pot luck do in the boater's lounge. Jim and Gloria, Wayne and I got the courtesy car and ran into Belhaven just to see the town. This is a farming area, we went past fields of wheat (some starting to ripen), fields of very good looking corn, and many fields that are just being planted. Lots of grain elevators. Belhaven seems to be a nice little farming town, good grocery store, many neat tidy looking houses, some very large.
A series of looper boats lined up along the dock, each with the AGLCA burgee flying from the front.
Came back and went directly to the pot luck, good food and good fellowship. Met several boaters we had not seen for some time, others we had not met before.
After we dock each day, the men spray down the boats to get the salt off. At this dock, Wayne couldn't spray the sides of our boat, so Jim sprayed from his dock, then Wayne returned the favour
The marina here at Dowry Creek is one of the first that we have seen flying both the American and the Canadian flag
The courtesy car here at the marina, a classic, a Chevy Caprice

This is a tree made of bottles. The story goes that evil spirits get caught in the bottles; you can hear them wailing when the wind blows.

Cool this evening. We plan to move further north tomorrow if the weather is good.
