Loggerhead Vero Beach Resort and Marina, Vero Beach, Florida

Alyse and her friend Susan
Captain Chris and his Mardi Gras hat

Left Stuart this morning; said good-bye for now to Scott and Marlene. They have purchased a house in Naples and will be going there to finalize the sale and organize things in the house. Hopefully we will meet again as we both make our way up the east coast. As we left the marina this morning, had to wait for a bridge opening. There is a low car bridge and a railroad bridge. The railroad bridge is up unless a train is coming, so if it is down, there is no point in requesting that they open the car bridge. As we went to leave the railroad bridge was up, so the bridge tender was able to let us through. Came back out the St. Lucie River, then turned back north on the intracoastal waterway. For much of the day we travelled beside Hutchinson Island, a large barrier island along the intracoastal. Went by Fort Pierce and on to Vero Beach. A pretty area and a nice day to travel. The weather has warmed up again. Started the day in jeans but quickly changed to shorts after we arrived. Went this evening to a Mardi Gras party at the home of Chris and Alyse, two captains who had taught Nancy and Eddie how to manage their boat before they left on the loop. Chris and Alyse have become friends of their's, and were kind enough to invite us over to their home as well. It was a lovely evening, lots of boating talk with them and their friends.
