Tall Timbers Marina, Havana, Illinois

Left Henry first thing, morning was crisp with mist rising off the water. Actually had frost on the front deck of the boat. We started the morning among several tows, they were invariably polite and made way for us to either meet them or pass as soon as they safely could. There is no diesel fuel available for the next several miles, so we decided to fill up at Peoria at Eastport Marine. They thought there should be enough depth in their channel to allow us to enter, and we did, but we scraped bottom on the way out. Water levels are low throughout the system, so depth is a problem in many places. We are still in the Illinois River; today there were levees and sloughs along both sides of the river for miles. There was also a migratory bird sanctuary. Still seeing sandy shores, and finally, saw what we think are Asian Carp. They seemed to be stirred up by the tows, so when we were passing a tow, they would jump in our wake. We also are seeing birds that look like big white pelicans with black tips on their wings. In Peoria Lake, they were everywhere.

We travelled 76 miles today, including one lock. Arrived at Tall Timbers Marina in Havana, Illinois at about 4:30 pm. Very friendly greeting from the marina owner, he stayed late to await our arrival, made sure we had everything we needed before he left.  We went for a walk with Nancy and Eddie to see the town, then got together for supper. Tried cooking a roast in the slow cooker while we travelled today, that worked very well.
