Orillia

View from the top of Kirkfield Lift lock; just like in Peterborough, we are raised up in a huge bucket of water, counterbalanced by another bucket going down on the other side
Travelled from Rosedale to Orillia today, good day's travel. It involved the Kirkfield lift lock (just like the Peterborough Lift, only smaller) and 6 other traditional locks. Breeze came up this afternon, so wondered if crossing Lake Simcoe to get to Orillia was wise. The people at the last lock before the lake said that reports were that the lake was good, so we set out. It was somewhat choppy, with big rolling waves as well, but doable, and we have arrived at the Port of Orillia. Nice to be tied up though. BranchNout and Fortuity are both here as well as a couple of other looper boats. Someone told us that several loopers left here this morning.
The Port of Orillia is great, within easy walking distance of amenities like grocery stores, restaurants, etc.

  1. Re Buckthorn still.
Are you saying that you are posting to the blog via the pseudo keyboard on your iphone? my condolences.
How far from shore can you get reception? Do they charge roaming fees? I've heard rumours that cell fees in the US (and even 3rd world countries) is less than in Canada. If you haven't already, you may want to consider getting another phone plan when you get to the States.

P.S. Did you put bikes on board?

  2. I could post via the little keyboard on my phone, but what I am actually doing is tethering my phone to the computer to get access through the 3G phone system. In Canada, all I need is a data package. Have arranged for a North American plan for when we are in the US.
And no, we are not bikers, so have not brought bikes.
